When should you seal your diamond painting?
You only need to seal your canvas in certain situations. Here are a few examples of when sealing is recommended:
-
If you plan to frame your canvas without glass on top
-
If you notice popping beads
-
If you want to preserve your canvas for many years
What you need to clean and seal your canvas:
-
Mod Podge Super Gloss
-
Paint brush
-
Damp cloth or baby wipes
-
Soft toothbrush
Step One: Clean your canvas
After finishing your canvas, start by making sure all the diamonds are properly set. You can do this by placing a heavy object on top or using a rolling pin to press everything down. Once your diamonds are flat and firmly in place, it is time to clean the surface.
Use a baby wipe or a lightly damp cloth to gently wipe your canvas. This will help remove any surface dust or residue. For areas between the diamonds, a soft toothbrush works really well. Gently brush over the canvas to lift out any excess wax, dust, or small particles that may have gotten stuck.
This cleaning step is very important. You want to make sure the surface is as clean as possible before sealing so that no debris gets trapped under the sealant.
Second Part: Sealing your canvas
Here are five simple steps to help you seal your diamond painting properly.
Step 1: Tape your canvas securely onto your table. This helps keep it steady, especially when you start applying the glue.
Step 2: Dip a clean paintbrush into your Mod Podge Super Gloss.
Step 3: Gently brush a thin layer of Mod Podge onto your canvas. Make sure the glue settles in between the diamonds. Try not to overload the surface.
Step 4: Using a clean damp cloth, lightly wipe the surface of your canvas. A circular motion works best. You will notice some white bubbles appearing as you wipe. This is completely normal. Keep gently wiping until the bubbles disappear.
This step is important because it removes excess glue from the tops of your diamonds while leaving just enough in between them. This way, your diamonds stay secure without losing their sparkle.
Step 5: Let your canvas dry for at least 24 hours before moving or framing it.
Third Part: Final Observations
After letting your canvas dry for 24 hours, here are a few things to check:
-
The diamonds should still sparkle beautifully
-
The canvas should feel firmer and more secure
-
There should be no more popping beads
These are signs that the sealing process was successful.
